Lorry Loader Operator Refresher Course

Overview

This refresher course is designed for experienced operators to update and assess their theoretical knowledge and practical skills to continue operating lorry loaders safely and in line with industry regulations. This course is ideal for those whose certification is due for renewal.

NPORS Traditional Route:

  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required

NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:

  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away

Suitable For

Experienced lorry loader operators needing to renew their NPORS certification

Aims

  • By the end of this refresher course, delegates will:
    • Refresh their understanding of the industry, hazards, and operator responsibilities
    • Review the manufacturer’s handbook and relevant legislation
    • Identify the major components and controls of the lorry loader and explain their functions
    • Perform pre-use checks in line with legislation and manufacturer guidance
    • Configure the vehicle and loader for travel and lifting
    • Navigate a range of operating environments safely
    • Deploy stabilisers and ensure proper use of Rated Capacity Indicators (RCI) or Load Moment Indicators (LMI)
    • Accurately determine load weights and centres of gravity
    • Perform lifting operations using a range of lifting accessories
    • Secure and unload materials from the vehicle
    • Complete all shut-down and end-of-shift procedures

Prerequisites

  • • Must hold a valid and in-date NPORS Lorry Loader card
    • Candidates must be able to provide evidence of their certification before attending
    • Must be physically fit to operate machinery safely

Teaching Methods

  • • Theory refresher in classroom setting
    • Practical revision and assessment on-site
    • Final theory test and practical assessment

Outcome

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card, depending on the chosen certification route, or a Simply Learning in-house certificate.
