Slinger Signaller Operator Refresher

Overview

This refresher course is designed to update and reconfirm a candidate’s theoretical knowledge and practical skills in slinging and signalling, ensuring they continue to operate safely and effectively in line with current NPORS and industry best practice.

Certification Routes

NPORS Traditional Route:

  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required

NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:

  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away

Suitable For

Experienced Slinger/Signallers who currently hold a valid or recently expired NPORS card and wish to renew their certification in line with NPORS standards.

Aims

  • To refresh and reconfirm knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
    • The role and responsibilities of a Slinger/Signaller
    • Relevant legislation and industry standards
    • Correct selection and inspection of lifting accessories
    • Slinging techniques and safe load handling
    • Effective use of hand signals and communication methods
    • Setting up exclusion zones and applying safe lifting practices
    • Environmental considerations and emergency procedures
    • Pre- and post-operation checks
    • End-of-shift shutdown and securing procedures

Prerequisites

  • • Candidates must hold a valid or recently expired NPORS Slinger/Signaller card (Traditional or CSCS route)
    • Proof of certification must be provided before course commencement
    • For CSCS route: CITB HS&E test passed within 2 years

Teaching Methods

    • Theoretical refresher and written test
    • Practical training and assessment

Outcome

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card, depending on the chosen certification route, or a Simply Learning in-house certificate.
