Skidsteer Loader Operator Course

Overview

This course provides candidates with the essential knowledge and practical skills to operate a skid steer loader safely and competently, in line with current NPORS standards and health & safety legislation. The training is suitable for those with little or no experience.

Certification Routes

NPORS Traditional Route:

  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required

NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:

  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away

Note: Speak to us to arrange the CITB Health and Safety awareness course and HS&E (CSCS) touch screen test if required.

Suitable For

This course is suitable for individuals who have no prior experience and wish to become qualified skid steer loader operators (NPORS Code: N212)

Aims

  • By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
    • Understand the industry, associated risks, and operator responsibilities
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the machine’s manufacturer handbook and components
    • Identify and explain key controls and their functions
    • Conduct pre-operational checks in accordance with legislation and manufacturer guidance
    • Select, inspect, and use appropriate PPE
    • Conduct safety checks at the work area
    • Safely start, manoeuvre, and operate the skid steer loader in various site conditions
    • Carry out loading and material transportation activities safely
    • Consider environmental factors during machine operation
    • Understand procedures for loading/unloading for transportation
    • Conduct post-use checks and end-of-shift shutdown procedures

Prerequisites

  • • No previous experience required
    • Candidates must be physically fit to operate machinery safely

Teaching Methods

  • • A combination of classroom-based theory and practical training
    • Includes both theory and practical assessments at course end

Outcome

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card or an in-house certification from Simply Learning.
