Plant Machinery Marshall Refresher

Overview

This refresher course is designed for previously certified Plant Machinery Marshals who require renewal of their NPORS card. It provides an update on current legislation, site safety best practice, and a reassessment of theoretical and practical skills in safely marshalling plant and machinery.

Certification Routes

NPORS Traditional Route:

  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required

NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:

  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away

Suitable For

Anyone renewing a valid or recently expired NPORS Plant Machinery Marshal qualification.

Aims

  • To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Relevant legislation, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant marshall.
  • The manufacturers handbook for the particular plant/machine to be guided.
  • Understand signs and signals, approved hand signals and different forms of communication.
  • Identifying and maintaining PPE appropriate for plant marshall duties.
  • Conducting all necessary safety checks at the work area including stop blocks and tipping areas.
  • Setting up exclusion zone for unloading.
  • Guiding machinery in a forward and reverse direction including confined spaces and blind areas safely and efficiently.
  • Environmental considerations.
  • Carrying out all end of shift and shut down and parking procedures.

Prerequisites

  • • Candidates must hold or have recently held a valid NPORS Plant Machinery Marshal card.
    • If expired, refresher eligibility is usually within 6 months of expiry. Please check with us if you're unsure.

Teaching Methods

    • Classroom-based theoretical refresher and test
    • Practical refresher and assessment

Outcome

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Card, depending on the chosen certification route, or a Simply Learning in house certificate.
