The Level 2 Diploma in Associated Industrial Services – Passive Fire Protection is a nationally recognised qualification designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge, and competence required to work safely and effectively in the installation and maintenance of passive fire protection systems.
This qualification is suitable for individuals working in or seeking employment within the construction, industrial services, or building maintenance sectors where fire protection systems are installed or maintained. Learners will gain practical, hands-on experience in passive fire protection techniques, along with an understanding of industry standards, legislation, and health and safety requirements.
The course supports learners in developing occupational competence under supervision, making it ideal for those entering the sector, seeking formal recognition of existing skills, or aiming to progress to more advanced technical roles.

Learners will develop skills and knowledge in areas including:
Health, safety, and welfare in industrial services and construction environments
Understanding fire safety legislation, standards, and codes of practice
Safe handling and use of tools, equipment, and fire protection materials
Installation and maintenance of passive fire protection systems, including fire stopping, compartmentation, and sealants
Inspecting and testing installed systems for compliance
Working effectively within a team and following site procedures
Optional units may allow learners to focus on specific passive fire protection systems or industrial services applications, depending on delivery and employer requirements.
This is a competence-based qualification, assessed through:
Practical observation in the workplace or a simulated environment
Portfolio of evidence demonstrating applied skills
Professional discussion and questioning
Witness testimonies where applicable
There are no formal examinations. Learners must demonstrate competence against national occupational standards.
Remote assessment will be used wherever feasible; however, in some situations an in person observation may be required
On successful completion, learners may progress to: Level 3 NVQs or diplomas in Associated Industrial Services or Fire Protection. Apprenticeships in passive fire protection or industrial services. Employment as a passive fire protection operative, installer, or technician. Further specialist construction or industrial services qualifications. Learners will receive a certificate of competence from the awarding body.
