Road Roller Operator Refresher

Overview

This refresher course is designed for experienced operatives who already hold a valid Road Roller certification and need to renew their NPORS operator card. The training provides updated theoretical knowledge and practical skills to ensure continued safe and competent operation of ride-on rollers in line with current NPORS and health & safety standards.

Certification Routes

NPORS Traditional Route:

  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required

NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:

  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away

Suitable For

This course is intended for operators who already hold a current or recently expired NPORS Road Roller card and require re-certification to continue operating legally and safely.

Aims

  • By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
    • Demonstrate a solid understanding of current industry best practices and health & safety legislation
    • Identify and explain the key functions and safety features of the roller
    • Carry out pre-operational and operational safety checks in line with legislation and manufacturer guidelines
    • Safely operate the machine, including preparation, manoeuvring, and compaction tasks
    • Navigate varied terrains and confined areas safely
    • Understand and apply safe shutdown and end-of-shift procedures
    • Review and update knowledge of environmental considerations and safe working practices

Prerequisites

  • • Candidates must already hold a valid or recently expired NPORS Road Roller Operator Card (NPORS N214)
    • Proof of certification is required before course commencement
    • Candidates must be physically fit and medically able to operate machinery safely

Teaching Methods

  • • Combination of classroom-based theoretical refresher training and hands-on practical assessment
    • Theory and practical tests conducted at course end

Outcome

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card or an in-house certification from Simply Learning.
