Choosing the Best Plant Machinery Training Course for You

If you’re exploring plant machinery training, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available. From different types of machinery to various certification routes, it’s not always clear where to begin. In this blog, we’ll help you cut through the confusion and find the right plant machinery training course for your needs.

Identify the Machinery You'll Be Operating

Before choosing any training, it’s essential to know what equipment you’ll be using day-to-day. Are you working with a variety of machines or focusing on just one type? Understanding this will help you decide which plant machinery training is most relevant, and whether you need beginner, refresher, or advanced-level instruction.

Choose the Right Accreditation

We offer a range of plant machinery training courses under leading accreditation body NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme)

Some employers prefer certification from an external awarding organisation, while others are happy with internal qualifications. That’s why we also provide in-house plant machinery training, which is ideal for companies wanting to certify their own team members efficiently without accreditation.

Prepare for Site Access

Another important aspect of plant machinery training is ensuring you’re eligible for site access. This might include holding the right CSCS card, having completed necessary health and safety modules, and being registered with the appropriate bodies. Without these, you could be turned away from jobs or sites — so preparation is key.

Certification Routes

NPORS Traditional Route
  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required
NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:
  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away
