Telescopic Handler Experienced Worker Assessment EWA

Overview

This course is designed for experienced Telescopic Handler operators who do not require full training but wish to gain formal recognition of their skills through the NPORS Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) route. The course provides a short refresher followed by formal assessment of theoretical knowledge and practical operating ability.

Certification Routes

NPORS Traditional Route:

  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required

NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:

  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away

Suitable For

Experienced Telescopic Handler operators who:
• Have substantial practical experience on the machine
• Do not require full novice training
• Require formal NPORS accreditation

Aims

  • To assess candidate competence and confirm understanding in the following areas:
    • Responsibilities of the operator and awareness of industry hazards
    • Pre-operational checks and basic fault finding
    • Understanding of the manufacturer’s handbook and documentation
    • Controls, functions, and configuration of the machine
    • Manoeuvring and operating the machine safely, laden and unladen
    • Lifting and placing loads accurately and securely
    • Use of attachments and knowledge of load capacity
    • Loading/unloading for transport
    • End of shift procedures
    • Environmental and site-specific considerations

Prerequisites

  • • Delegates must have prior experience operating a Telescopic Handler
    • Valid CITB HS&E test required only for NPORS CSCS route
    • Good understanding of spoken and written English is essential

Teaching Methods

    • Short theory refresher
    • Theory assessment
    • Practical assessment

Outcome

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card, depending on the chosen certification route, or a Simply Learning in house certificate.
