360 Excavator Operator Refresher Course

Overview

Designed to refresh both theoretical knowledge and hands-on ability of experienced operators, ensuring safe operation of 360-degree excavators, in line with current NPORS standards.

Certification Routes

NPORS Traditional Route:

  • Valid for 3 years
  • No NVQ or CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test required

NPORS-CSCS Certification Route:

  • Red card (valid for 2 years) issued upon completion
  • To upgrade to a blue card (valid for 5 years), you must complete a relevant NVQ
  • Already got the NVQ? You’ll get the blue card straight away

Suitable For

Experienced 360 excavator operators seeking to renew or refresh their NPORS certification or in-house certificate.

Aims

  • By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

    • Understand the industry, associated hazards, and operator responsibilities
    • Demonstrate knowledge of machine components and functions using the manufacturer’s manual
    • Identify and use controls including steering, driving, and braking systems
    • Select, inspect, and maintain appropriate PPE
    • Perform pre-operational checks to legal and manufacturer standards
    • Safely start, operate, and shut down the excavator
    • Navigate varied terrain, including confined areas
    • Carry out site safety checks
    • Configure and operate the machine to perform excavation tasks
    • Load materials onto transport vehicles or containers
    • Reinstate excavations and level ground to specification
    • Fit, use, and remove attachments correctly
    • Conduct post-use checks and end-of-shift procedures

Prerequisites

  • • Current, valid 360 excavator operator certificate (proof required)
    • CITB HS&E test must be passed within the 2 years before the course
    • You must be physically fit to operate machinery safely

Teaching Methods

  • • Combination of classroom-based theory and practical training
    • Theory and practical assessments at course end

Outcome

Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card or in-house certification.
